Dermal Fillers
Derma Fillers are FDA- Approved hyaluronic acid fillers. Hyaluronic acid is already produced in our bodies, essentially a sugar molecule. Proper filler placement can be used for both wrinkle reduction as well as fillers for hollow facial structures to add definition and plumpness.

Dermal Fillers are one of the best treatments for unwanted wrinkles and adding volume to your skin. The following facial volume deficits can be effectively treated with dermal fillers.
Who is a Candidate?

Men and women who are bothered by signs of aging such as loss of facial volume or lines can often benefit from dermal fillers. Ideal candidates will be physically healthy, nonsmokers who are committed to maintaining good skin health. Those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a history of keloid scarring, or have a history of severe allergic reactions may not be good candidates. Please contact us today to schedule a consultation appointment.

Consultation

During the filler consultation we review the different types of dermal fillers and listen to your goals to determine which filler treatment is the ideal option. There will be a facial evaluation and a review of your skincare routine, lifestyle, medical history and medication/supplement intake. We will make sure to address all your concerns regarding the treatment plan and chosen dermal filler. The cost of the treatment session will also be covered during the consultation.

Pre-Treatment Instructions

-
Do not use dermal fillers if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to any of the ingredients, suffer from any neurological or autoimmune disorders, are experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms, or have any active inflammatory processes (cysts, pimples, rashes, hives).
-
Dermal fillers must not be administered if you have had any vaccines, immunizations, procedures, illnesses, or dental work in the past two weeks and for an additional two weeks after fillers.
-
For optimal results, and to minimize the chance of bleeding or bruising at the injection site, please avoid all blood-thinning medications and supplements for one week prior to your appointment. This includes over-the-counter medication such as aspirin and ibuprofen. Also avoid herbal supplements such as garlic, vitamin E, ginko biloba, St. John's Wort and omega-3 capsules. If you have a cardiovascular history, please check with your doctor prior to stopping use of aspirin.
-
Do not drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours before or after your treatment to avoid extra bruising.
-
Inform your provider if you have a history of Perioral Herpes to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment. (Valtrex 500 mg BID, 5 days, start 2 days prior to treatment)
-
Avoid topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A) retinols, retinoids, glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy acid, or any "anti-aging" products for two days before and after treatment.
The Treatment

A topical numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area to ensure you are comfortable during the injection process. The numbing cream consist of Benzocaine, Lidocaine and Tetracaine (BLT). About 15 to 30 minutes later, the site should be numb. If you have a BLT allergy, you can opt for injectable numbing, also known as a nerve block. A nerve block is a local anesthetic that involves a needle being used to administer lidocaine to specific nerve regions to numb the area. Next, a fine syringe will be used to inject the dermal filler of your choice into the designated areas. Treatment length may vary depending on the number of areas being injected.

Post-Treatment Instructions
-
There may be some redness, swelling or potential bruising surrounding the treated area- this will dissipate and go away within up to 72 hours after your treatment.
-
You may apply a cool compress or ice pack for 15 minutes each hour while awake to reduce swelling. Ice packs may be used to the treated area during the first 12 hours.
-
You will see significant results right after your treatment, but it may take up to 1-2 weeks to see any full results. Results are instant and can last 6- 24 months (depending on the filler).
-
Avoid facial massage of the treated area unless instructed by provider.
-
Avoid strenuous exercise or anything that increases your heart rate for 24 hours.
-
Avoid extensive sun or heat for 72 hours (no sauna, hot tub).
-

-
Use Tylenol (acetaminophen) for discomfort. No NSAIDs (ibuprofen, aspirin) for 24 hours as they can increase bleeding.
-
Try to sleep face up and slightly elevated if you experience swelling.
-
You may want to consider taking Arnica (found in health food stores) to help with the bruising and swelling.
-
Avoid wearing makeup the day of procedure.
-
Sanitize your phone before putting it to your face and try to talk on speaker phone as much as you can day of.
-
Wait a minimum of two weeks before dental work, immunizations, or laser treatments.
